    Volunteer

Bala Mandir is a social organisation which is run by volunteers with support from the paid employees and professionals for the routine work. All Bala Mandir activities have scope for volunteers to support. However, most of the support needs physical presence in India. Visitors wishing to volunteer during their planned visits to Chennai can contact Bala Mandir in India or USA for a discussion on the possibilities.

For persons living in USA, the following volunteering opportunity exists

    • Support for fund raising in the USA – Volunteers could help spread the word on Bala Mandir activities and needs on an ongoing basis and/or participate in the planned annual online fund-raising event.
    • Online one on one support to Children – Volunteers who are willing to commit to supporting children in middle school through WhatsApp calls could register for the Happy Reading programme. The enclosed pamphlet has the project details and this programme supports the children in Bala Mandir’s Kinship Care programme. Basic knowledge of spoken Tamil will be needed to interact with the parents and there is a need to commit 1 hour time in the evening of India time, 2 days a week. The Happy Reading programme helps the children improve their reading skills. Over time the volunteer can continue to support the same children as he/she grows and seeks help in other areas including mentoring.
    • Online support for special programmes – If the volunteer has specific special skills such as music, art or any other skills which they wish to share with the needy children, then we can work out special programmes for the same. Basic knowledge of spoken Tamil would be an advantage for such volunteering programmes.
