Volunteering Opportunities with Bala Mandir
1. Support for Fundraising in the USA
Volunteers can help raise awareness about Bala Mandir’s work and needs throughout the year and/or participate in the annual online fundraising event.
2. Online One-on-One Academic Support for Children in India There are two broad options under this category:
Happy Reading Programme
Volunteers who can commit one hour in the evenings (India time), twice a week, are invited to join the Happy Reading Programme. This initiative helps children improve their reading skills and is managed by Gnana Sharada Foundation—an independent organization with a structured curriculum and process for working with large groups of volunteers and children.
Bala Mandir partners exclusively with Gnana Sharada Foundation to support children from its Kinship Care Programme across various districts in Tamil Nadu.

Mentoring Children at the Bala Mandir Home
Volunteers interested in mentoring children residing at the Bala Mandir Home can support them in academics, life skills, and critical thinking. Prior experience in online teaching is preferred.
Interested individuals may email pn@balamandir.org with a brief note about their areas of interest.
3. Special Programmes
Volunteers with specific skills—such as music, art, or other enrichment activities—are welcome to propose special sessions for the children. These can be conducted online or in person during visits to India.
Please email pn@balamandir.org with your ideas and area of expertise.
- Online support for special programmes – If the volunteer has specific special skills such as music, art or any other skills which they wish to share with the needy children, then we can work out special programmes for the same. Basic knowledge of spoken Tamil would be an advantage for such volunteering programmes.
